Steven Neal Hammack, 66, of Auburn, WA passed peacefully in the hospital May 23, 2026, with his husband of 18 years, Duane (Bub) Braconnier at his side. His six-month battle with cancer, which he fought heroically, has ended.

Steven was born in Escondido, CA on June 14, 1959, to George and Margaret Hammack. He grew up in CA and relocated to WA state in his teens. He married his soulmate Duane (Bub) Braconnier on August 7, 2007, and they enjoyed years of love and laughter with family and friends.

Steven is survived by his husband, Duane (Bub) Braconnier of Auburn, WA; his brother, Keith (and wife Linda), of Kelso, WA; his sister Beth (and husband Jim), of Springfield, OR; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his new felines, Betty and Bear, who got to share his love for 4 years since they were kittens; his friends in his chosen “tribe” family whom he and Bub have known and loved for years; and his many friends and colleagues he became close with over his 42 years working in retail. His smile and laughter will be truly missed by anyone who has ever met him.

A celebration of life will take place on his birthday, June 14th.
