Gregory Lawrence Jones
March 26, 1955 – October 24, 2026
A beloved husband, father, cousin, brother in-law, uncle and friends to many, Gregory Lawrence Jones, 71, passed away on October 24th, due to dementia and complications affected by congestive heart failure. He was born on March 26, 1955 to Lawrence Jackson Jones and Shirley Mae Master Jones and spent the majority of his lifetime in Seattle.
Greg graduated from West Seattle High School in 1973 and then went on to Phoenix, AZ to receive his diploma from De Vry Institute of Technology. In 1975 he completed the curriculum for Electronics Technician and then returned to Seattle. During his career, Greg worked in various computer-type jobs. Prior to retirement, he worked as a UNIX administrator for EDS @ Weyerhaeuser and then later at the Bremerton Shipyard as a Systems Analyst.
Throughout his lifetime, Greg had a passion for bowling and golf. It gave him the opportunity to make so many friends and enjoy life to the fullest. A very close buddy with a heavy heart wrote:
Greg had the gift of finding few words to say so much. When I spoke with Greg, he would often pause and process what I said, sometimes take a breath then answer with the perfect response. During our lifelong friendship from the days of junior league bowling, he never raised his voice in any conversation. He was the kindest man I’ve ever known.
A fierce competitor on the lanes, closest of bowling friends knew him as “Rawley” for baseball pitcher Rollie Fingers. In his time, Greg could put more revolutions “fingers” on the ball then anyone. He could make a dot on a ball look like a line when it went down the lanes. Greg was the anchor man on all of our teams. He thrived when the situation called for him to come through in the clutch. His focus and intensity grew under his always calm demeanor.
Greg also had a love for golf. It was more for the purity of the game and the hours on the course spent with his closest friends.
Greg will be missed by many. He will have a place in my heart forever.
Greg also loved to watch Seattle’s baseball, football and hockey games along with golf tournaments happening all across the globe and listen to his favorite musical groups and there were many.
He was a loving husband, an intelligent, patient, gentle, and a caring person - the purest of people, which were some of his greatest assets. Always thoughtful, he is truly missed and will never be forgotten.
Greg is survived by his wife Karen Ragasa, children Allen Jackson Jones and Kaitlyn Laverne Jones, cousins Leonard Bean (wife Cheryl), Jennifer McKee (husband Greg), Harold Bean (wife Becky), sister in-law Yvonne Kristof, and their children. His family would like to thank everyone involved in Greg’s care, especially Jenny, Carlos, the nurses and the nurse assistants at the adult care home who welcomed his stay at the very last minute and comforted him until his passing.
A memorial service will be held November 3, 2026 at the Sumner Voiles Funeral Chapel, 15124 Main St. E., Sumner, WA. Closed casket viewing will begin at 10am and the funeral will begin at 11am. Burial will follow at 1pm at the Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park, Enumclaw, WA.
